This is one of the best know and most valuable woods in south tropical Africa. The heartwood is golden, reddish brown and is very durable. It is used for high quality furniture, boat building, canoes, canoe paddles, game and fish spears. The trees grow in the bushveld and woodlands of Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Northern Botswana, North-eastern Namibia, Southern Zambia and North-eastern South Africa.
